2013 – The Best and Worst Gadgets

The post 2013 – The Best and Worst Gadgets appeared first on MoTech Radio.

With 2013 drawing to a close, lists of the greatest accomplishments of the year are popping up everywhere. Without a doubt, 2013 has marked a number of incredible developments in the tech world, particularly when it comes to new developments in personal gadgets. Time Magazine lists the year’s top ten:

Top 10 Gadgets

Every modern wireless phone is a cameraphone, but this Lumia is something new: a phonecamera. Its oversized sensor packs 41 megapixels of resolution; you can capture the most detailed phone snapshots you’ve ever seen, and zoom in without reducing your pictures to a blocky mess. …

Google Chromecast

While the above list certainly brings some good gadgets to attention, the focus is on innovation and new developments rather than on functionality. Wired’s top ten list is instead comprised of gadgets in finished form – items that they consider to be “no-brainer purchases”:

Gear of the Year: Gadget Lab’s Favorite Stuff From 2013

The hardest part about assembling any year-end list of “best products” is coming up with the selection criteria. Sure, we could just look at the scores of everything we reviewed in a calendar year and select the products with the highest ratings. But that’s lazy, and not really useful since you can just do that yourself. …

Not every 2013 gadget, however, was a great success . Some rather spectacular failures occurred as well (see, for instance, my recent posting on the newest Samsung Galaxy Gear commercial). Trusted Reviews mentions some of the most notable failures:

Top 5 Worst Tech Gadgets of 2013

The year is just about done, and with our annual TrustedReviews awards we’ve celebrated the best new technology of the year. However, what about the worst bits? …

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Gear appears both on Time’s ‘top 10’ list and Trusted Reviews ‘top 5 failures’ list. This is probably because, even though the watch itself was terrible, it was the first  smart watch to appear on the market. Perhaps it won’t be the only failed gadget that is actually paving the way for some greater developments in 2014. Who knows what the biggest 2014 accomplishments will be? One thing is for certain: they will be impressive.
