Wireless Unite

The post Wireless Unite appeared first on MoTech Radio.

While we’re still a long way off from a completely cordless future, a big step has been made in that direction. Two of the main companies in the wireless charging industry – Alliance for Wireless Power and Power Matters Alliance – have joined forces in an attempt to unify the wireless industry:

Rival Wireless Charging Groups Team Up

Two major wireless charging groups are teaming up to make sure they are developing interoperable standards. The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and Power Matters Alliance (PMA) will work together to streamline wireless charging…

As Engadget describes it, this really could be an important step in the wireless world:

New wireless charging partnerships could mean fewer cables in your junk drawer

In 2012, Qualcomm and Samsung joined forces to start The Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), one of many organizations competing to establish a universal standard for wireless charging. A4WP envisions a wire-free future, but chances are you’re still packing a series of cables to keep your gadgets juiced up. …

So what’s the main reason for this merging? Roger Cheng of CNet quotes Kamil Grajski, president of the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP):

“We believe that companies that have been evaluating and hesitating to integrate wireless charging into their consumer electronics products will now have a reason to go forward”.

A unified wireless charging world would, it seems, make it significantly easier for wireless charging to really take off both with companies and consumers. The future is on its way.
