If you’re like me, you woke up this morning, signed into Gmail, and were surprised by the weird ad that popped up. “Gmail, you’re starting to make updates like Facebook! And I hate selfies!”  Five minutes later, after a small amount of browsing, the lightbulb turns on.

What IS April Fool’s Day, anyway? Where did it come from? As with most of our ‘holidays’, the origins are weird and have nothing to do with how we actually celebrate it today:
