Windows Phone 8.1

The newly-released Windows Phone 8.1 seems to be getting decent, if not stellar reviews. It does its job properly, can now connect to your Windows-operated PC, and is a big improvement over the previous Windows Phone. Its biggest claim-to-fame is Cortana, the new computerized personal assistant still in beta form. Here’s the down-low on the phone, and Cortana:

Windows Phone 8.1 is a good mobile operating system. Now what? Good or not good, most people have already chosen something else – either an iPhone or some variety of android smartphone…

Perhaps Cortana will take off the ground and turn into something indispensible. But honestly I’m surprised that people are reviewing the beta Cortana so calmly. Personally I found this commercial for it terrifying – far too similar to a preview for another futuristic dystopian world action film for comfort:

I think it was the line, “Now I’m learning about you”, that did it for me. Seriously, is there anything NOT creepy about that? I think I’ll stick with Android.
