The post Take a Vacation from All Your Tech Devices and Open your Mind Up to Creative Thinking appeared first on MoTech Radio.
When was your last Techation? What’s that you say? You don’t know what a techation is. Well, that’s understandable because it’s a made up word.
Truth is, the growth of technology, new devices, applications and new work methods have permeated all of our everyday activities. And although these have increased professionals ability to be efficient, banking apps, financial programs, following GPS and all the other tech paraphernalia has served to boost the time we spend on our gadgets.
According to several studies, more than 60% of mobile device owners find themselves checking for messages, alerts, calls or doing work even when they shouldn’t. In fact these studies show that most users sleep with their phone next to their bed, just so they don’t miss any information.
We need a break and that’s where a techation or the tech vacation comes in. No more mobile phones, replacement cell phone batteries, computers, tablets or any other electronic paraphenelia. Take a break from all of it.
Taking a Break From Technology is Sometimes Necessary
I just returned from vacation. My wife and I spent the last nine days with her family in Ireland. It was amazing. I was forced to take a much-needed break from technology. No computer. No cell phone. Just me, a good book, and the open Irish road. The result of this mini-sabbatical was nothing short of revelatory.
They say a total break from technology lets your creativity flow. Think about it. Think of all the people who have had a epiphany while in the shower, while making the bed or while sleeping. It’s while we do these mundane things that we reach our creative side, and to do that we must step away from technology once in a while.
TECHNOLOGY: DOES IT HINDER OR HELP CREATIVITY?
In our most recent blog post, we explored the idea of technology hindering communication skills, but could it also affect our creativity? With technology, we have the capability to create higher quality work in less time. We are almost limitless with what can be accomplished thanks to technology, but could these tools actually be limiting our creativity? Many business owners can probably remember a day when technology was limited and creativity was necessary to success. Advertisements started as drawings and pictures, not stock photos and Photoshop. Newsletters were mailed traditionally on the company letterhead, not electronically for viewers to receive in seconds. Writingstarted with blank paper and brainstorming, not Google. Now, with all of the tools available on the internet, it’s easy for anyone to appear innovative to the naked eye.
Bottom Line
I don’t think anyone thinks you can’t do things better with technological devices like mobile phones, cell phone battery replacements, displays and more. Technology makes life easier, but you need to know when to disconnect. There comes a time to step back, enjoy your surroundings, think about nothing and everything. That’s where those important creative seeds lie, deep within and when they start sprouting, flying and developing into beautiful things. Things you can later use technology to enhance.
